Teaching Women's Studies

The University Grants Commission in 1984 identified Women’s Studies as the means by which the academic isolation of the Indian universities could be overcome and education could become sensitive to social issues. Since then it has provided grants to various institutions for the setting up of Women’s Studies centres and cells. The Research Centre whole-heartedly provides guidance to these centres and participates in their teaching programmes of Women’s Studies at different levels of the graduate, post-graduate and the M.Phil. courses.

RCWS initiated its own teaching Post-Graduate Certificate course in Women's Studies in 1997. The course is designed to provide a theoretical and methodological thrust as well as give knowledge of contemporary discourses on women's issues. The course participants come from a varied background ranging from law to social work and teaching and have enriched the course with their wide experience.
